Dale Dougherty

Dale Dougherty is the editor and publisher of MAKE, and general manager of the Maker Media division of O’Reilly Media, Inc.

He also organizes Maker Faire, a newfangled fair that showcases DIY approaches in arts, crafts, science and engineering. Dale has been instrumental in many of O’Reilly’s most important efforts, including founding O’Reilly Media, Inc. with Tim O’Reilly.

He was the developer and publisher of Global Network Navigator (GNN), the first commercial Web site, which launched in 1993 and was sold to AOL in 1995. Dale was developer and publisher of Web Review, the online magazine for Web designers, and he was O’Reilly’s first editor.
Prior to developing MAKE, Dale was publisher of the O’Reilly Network and he developed the Hacks series of books. Dale is the author of Sed & Awk. He was a Lecturer in the School of Information Management and Systems (SIMS) at the University of California at Berkeley from 1996 to 2000.

Neil David Loftus Butcher

Neil Butcher is based in South Africa, from where he has provided policy and technical advice and support to a range of national and international clients regarding educational planning, uses of educational technology and distance education, both as a full-time employee at the South African Institute for Distance Education (SAIDE) from 1993 to 2001 and as Director of Neil Butcher & Associates. He has worked with various educational institutions, assisting with transformation efforts that focus on effectively harnessing the potential of distance education methods and educational technology. Neil has travelled extensively through Africa conducting research on higher education, distance education, and educational technology for a range of organizations, governments, and donors. He is currently working as an OER (Open Educational Resources) Strategist with SAIDE on its new OER Africa Initiative, which is funded by the Hewlett Foundation and is managing the Partnership for Higher Education in Africa’s Educational Technology Initiative.

Sara Crouse has been the Head of Partnerships and Foundation Relationsfor the Wikimedia Foundation since July 2008. Before that, she worked with the Foundation for several months in the fundraising area on a contract basis.Sara has several years of fundraising experience. She spent the last 5 years in various positions with Cambridge in America: the most recent as Associate Director of Research. In that role, she identified and researched donor prospects, worked on cultivation strategy and worked with volunteer leadership and supporters to advance Major Gifts efforts.Prior to Cambridge in America, Sara worked for RKO Pictures and TransPerfect Translations. Sara also worked in special events for the Guggenheim Museum in New York.

She holds an M.A. from NYU and a B.A from Georgetown University.
