I got an email forward with this picture above and the subject read, “It happens only in Bangalore”. The email went on to say, “A techie transfers fund for a penalty from his laptop near Trinity Circle in Bangalore on Tuesday.”
Now, as soon as I saw the photo, I recognized the guy with the laptop. I had met him at BarCamps in Bangalore, though I couldn’t place his name. I immediately emailed the Barcamp organizers group and Pradeep BV, the guy in the picture himself replied back with clarification.
Pradeep.BV is the founder of a company called Mapunity. His company is the one which developed the Bangalore Traffic Information System.
On what he was doing in the picture,Pradeep says “I was actually trying to program an LED board setup at trinity circle, Bangalore to display travel times to airport from trinity circle. when a Deccan Herald lens man happened to shoot this photo and put it up on the next days edition.
The cop you see next to me is helping me by cross checking the validity of the travel times by SMSing BTIS TRNCL ARPT’ to 54321.”
Now we know how much to believe inane email forwards.
