The last two days (Monday & Tuesday) had me in Delhi for business purposes. The next three days (Wed, Thur, Fri) will see me fly to Mumba for a very important event. It means, I’ll be away from my wife and kids for a week. something I try to avoid if I can help it. That’s the reason why, even though it would have been easier for me to fly from Delhi to Mumbai last night, I made a conscious decision to go back to Chennai, spend a few hours with my kids and then catch the early morning flight to Mumbai.
Sadly, that wasn’t to be.
My Chennai bound Jetlite was to depart Delhi at 7:15 pm which means I could have been at my home a little later than 10 pm. Alas, while “the late arrival of incoming flight” delayed it by an hour, a ‘technical snag’ delayed it by a further two hours. Thanks to this, I landed home at an ungodly 1:00 early morning only to see my two daughters fast asleep.
My younger daugther’s Kindergarten school admission had come through and I was super happy for her. I wanted to hug her close to me for this is an important moment for me and my wife. The entire purpose of me coming down to Chennai was wasted. Sometimes, I wish the airlines saw beyond just the financial loss of delays and gave emotional loss a thought.
I had to wake up at 3:00 am to catch the first flight out of Chennai to reach Mumbai. Now, I’m sitting groggy eyed with complete lack of sleep last night!
